Graduate Program IDM’s Ph.D. program is designed to provide a very effective and somewhat unique environment for students to do research and receive training. The student is expected to acquire a broad understanding of developmental biology and genetics. Advanced graduate study becomes increasingly focused on the successful completion of original research and the preparation of a written dissertation under the supervision of a faculty advisor along with the guidance of a thesis committee. At IDM, each student works with one or more independent projects, actively building stories based on a lot of thinking and planning. At the same time students are working within a large group of people who are addressing a range of scientific questions and watching how many interesting science stories are being constructed. In 2006, IDM recruits graduate students independently. Applicants are required to pass the examination of Molecular Genetics and Molecular Cell Biology.
